Sunday Face Off

ICE hockey players better get their on skates if they want a game at the Braehead Arena.

A new ice hockey session - called Sunday Face-Off – has been launched and it is open to all players over the age of 16.

The players just need to turn up with their ice hockey kit, pay £5 and after picking sides, the action begins. The sessions run between 9am and 10am every Sunday when the Arena is available for ice sports.

Braehead’s leisure manager, Bruce Harley said: “This is a new concept for us and we’re sure it will be very popular.
“It’s a chance for recreational hockey players to get some extra game time in and taking part couldn’t be simpler - turn up, pay your money, pick teams and away you go.
“The games will be non-contact and players conduct will be self-regulated.”

Some Sunday sessions had been trialed last month and father and son players Michael and Paul Daly, from Paisley turned up to play and thought the sessions were a great idea.

Brian Murdoch, the registrations secretary of Scottish Ice Hockey also took part in the sessions and he agreed.
“The important thing is to give people the chance to play ice hockey,” Brian said. “It gives people who aren’t members of any club the chance to have a game of ice hockey.”

Anyone interested in playing in the Sunday Face Off games should contact Braehead Leisure, on 0141 885 4611 to check for ice availability.
